PARISH COUNCIL UPDATE – 15th July 2024
The Parish Council’s latest meeting, held at Long Clawson village hall on the evening of July 15th, 2024, was a time for us to reach our full complement of parish councillors. We have been looking for a new councilor to fill the vacancy in Hose, and the council have co-opted Matthew Simpson onto the council. We welcome Matthew to the team and look forward to working with him.
Our County Councilor, Brian Lovegrove, reported to us that the works regarding the flooding issues in Long Clawson are on-going, but progress (albeit slow) is being made. This includes work to clear the culvert that runs from Mill Lane to the bottom of The Sands. The Parish Council will be writing to the leader of Melton Borough Council (Cllr Allnatt) to request that the much-needed meeting with MBC and LCC takes place as soon as possible to speed up the delivery of this much needed action.
Cllr Lovegrove is also looking at options to improve parking in and around the doctor’s surgery in Long Clawson, to alleviate the congestion that often occurs in this area. The Parish Council will be working with him to investigate options and to help where we can.
It has taken much effort and hard work by our new Clerk, but we now have a full and up to date record of all allotments within each village. There are plenty of allotments available in Hose, and we would welcome anyone who may be interested in taking on one of these to email to clerk@clawsonhoseharby-pc.gov.uk. Further information can be found on our website at https://clawsonhoseharby-pc.gov.uk/council-services/allotments.
The municipal cemetery in Long Clawson does not, at present, have a designated space for cremation plots. The Clerk has suggested that this should be looked at, and the council agreed that this should happen prior to the next meeting.
You may all have noticed various road diversions over the last several weeks, all for a myriad of different reasons. We would like to bring to your attention, that notifications of intended road closures are posted on our website, please visit https://clawsonhoseharby-pc.gov.uk/news. These are all marked with a TTRO or Temporary Traffic Regulation Order.
We have recently had the ROSPA Play Safety reports completed for all the play areas within the Parish. Thankfully, there are no ‘red’ action items, and all recommended works are being reviewed, and action taken at the earliest opportunity. As a part of this, each village play area will be inspected weekly by a councilor from that village, so we can correctly identify the ‘priority’ items, and sensibly identify any other works that can be completed at the same time.
It has been brought to our attention that there are several pavements which are unusable due to overgrown hedges. Where these are the responsibility of the Parish Council, works are already in place or have been scheduled in, to have these hedges cut back. However, many are not the responsibility of the Parish Council, but will be that of a homeowner or LCC.
There is an excellent website, operated by LCC, where you can report a problem of this nature and of other items, such as potholes, graffiti & fly tipping for example.
Please visit: https://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/road-maintenance/report-a-road-problem
Where the responsibility is identified as being that of LCC, they will complete the required actions at the earliest opportunity. Should it be the case, that the offending hedge is the responsibility of a homeowner, that homeowner will be written to, giving them notice to act themselves. If they fail to do so, LCC will complete the required work and invoice the homeowner.
If you own a hedge that encroaches onto a pavement, may we remind you, that it is your responsibility to make sure that the pavement is kept clear of any obstructions, and for you to take any such actions required to make sure that the entire pavement is clear for pedestrians. Thank you.
We welcome any comments you may wish to make, and we remind you all, that whilst your Parish Council may not be directly responsible for the item or issue you may wish to raise, we are your local representatives and will endeavor to help if we can. Please send any correspondence to clerk@clawsonhoseharby-pc.gov.uk or by post to Clawson, Hose & Harby Parish Council, C/O Hose VH, 2 Harby Ln, Hose, Melton Mowbray LE14 4JR. In addition, there is a public session at the beginning of every meeting should you wish to attend and make comment or raise concerns in person.
There will be no Parish Council meeting in August so our next meeting will take place on Monday 16th September starting at 19.00 at Hose Village Hall.
Kind regards
Your Parish Council.
