PARISH COUNCIL UPDATE – 15th April 2024

Following last year’s elections Clawson, Hose and Harby Parish Council comprised of a majority of new councillors who have since been working hard to ensure best working practices within already existing formats, and to explore new possibilities for the benefit of our villages in the future.

There have been some challenges during the last year with regard to maintaining a parish clerk who can offer some stability in the post. The good news is Helen Glaves has supported us while we recruit a permanent clerk, we are pleased that Stephanie Massey has joined us on the 4th April, she has vast clerking experience which will help the council move forward. Our thanks go to Helen for her much appreciated support during this time.

We are aware that many of you have missed the monthly update in the Harby Journal, Clawson Clarion and Hose Piper. It is our intention to reinstate regular updates to keep everyone up to date with CHH Parish Council activities.

So, what else have we been doing to support our villages and make the parish council more proactive?

We have now confirmed the services of Netwise to host our new website which will be much easier to keep up to date and have a better fresher look. This will be launched following development work.

We are also going to be using a new software package which will help us efficiently manage the parish accounts, allotments and cemetery sites we are responsible for.

Working in conjunction with the County Council, several new mobile speed activated signs are to be introduced around our villages. We will be able to relocate these signs to different sites on a regular basis to encourage a reduction in speeding vehicles and make drivers more speed aware. The location of the posts for the signs is currently being finalised.

The flooding issue that has affected Long Clawson is an ongoing piece of work that is bringing the Borough and County councils together to find some long-term solutions to solve the problem.

Some residents may not realise that the Parish Council is also responsible for a large number of streetlights in the villages. There has recently been work conducted by Eon and National Grid to repair some broken lighting, and this work is an ongoing long-term project due to the number of lights needing work and the costs involved.

The results of a recent tree survey are currently being studied to identify any tree works required for trees we are responsible for. Hedging and grass cutting works are under review to enable us to provide a better, more cost-effective service.

We are also engaged in positive works with other parish councils in the Vale to be able to help and support our neighboring Vale villages.

We will keep you updated on progress.

The next Clawson, Hose and Harby Parish Council meeting will take place on Monday 20th May starting at 19.00 at Harby Valley Christian Fellowship (near the Nags Head).

Regards Your Parish Council.
